Mahua Moitra Opens Up About Her Admiration for Pankaj Tripathi in a Light-Hearted Chat
In a departure from her usual intense political persona, Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra recently offered a surprising and playful glimpse into her personal interests. Speaking to India Today, the outspoken politician, typically known for her passionate speeches and incisive arguments in Parliament, shared an amusing anecdote that revealed her admiration for acclaimed actor Pankaj Tripathi.

During the candid discussion, Mahua reflected on her fondness for Hindi cinema and revealed her absolute favorites. Among them were the iconic Munnabhai films and the comedy Vicky Donor, which she mentioned enjoying thoroughly. However, what truly stood out was her deep appreciation for Pankaj Tripathi’s acting, especially in gritty, intense roles. She confessed to watching the complete Mirzapur series and expressed particular fondness for his portrayal of dark and edgy characters in projects like Gangs of Wasseypur.

Her admiration didn’t just end with binge-watching his work. Mahua revealed that she once took a bold step and penned a handwritten note to the actor, expressing her admiration and requesting a casual coffee meeting. She humorously added that the message went unanswered, possibly because Tripathi prefers a quiet life in Alibaug and doesn’t meet people casually.

"I even wrote him a note, which he never replied to, but yes, I wrote him a note. He is my crush. I think he is the coolest actor. I love the mean, bad roles he does. I loved him in Mirzapur, even in Gangs of Wasseypur," she said.

This lighthearted fan moment took a turn when Mahua had the opportunity to connect with Tripathi through fellow parliamentarian and actor Ravi Kishan. She shared that Ravi kindly facilitated a phone call between them. But to her own surprise, Mahua admitted she was so overwhelmed and shy during the brief conversation that she forgot she had even sent him the note in the first place.

While Mahua’s fan moment charmed many, Pankaj Tripathi himself continues to win hearts on the big screen. He was most recently seen in Metro... In Dino, directed by Anurag Basu, he starred alongside Konkona Sen Sharma. His nuanced performance as Madhav Mishra in the third season of Criminal Justice on JioHotstar also earned him praise. Fans can look forward to his return as the iconic Kaleen Bhaiya in Mirzapur: The Film, slated for a 2026 release. Additionally, Tripathi will appear in Stree 3, a horror-comedy, and is collaborating once again with OMG 2 director Amit Rai on a socially themed film set in Bihar.
