It is a dream for many to move to the mountains. When city life wears us down and the noise becomes too much to bear, all we crave is the peace of the chilly mountain air and lush green hills surrounding us. Although mountain life does have its fair share of challenges, cleaner air, quieter surroundings and easy access to nature are equally rewarding. Recently, a couple, Divya and Saurav, have captured the internet’s attention for documenting their Himalayan life in Gazan, a scenic village near Manali. In a video posted on Instagram, Divya revealed the cost of living in the mountains

Breaking down their monthly mountain expenses

In the video, titled ‘Living in the mountains, episode 1’, Divya shared that she and her partner Saurav both work remotely. Divya noted that although they live in a 4BHK apartment and also run a homestay, someone who simply plans to live here can get a rented 1 BHK apartment at around Rs 15,000. Meanwhile, a 2BHK costs around Rs. 25,000.

In terms of food-related expenses, Divya explained that they mostly cook at home, so the grocery bill comes at about Rs 10,000. Eating out occasionally adds another Rs 5000 to the bill. Divya further revealed that fuel does not cost them much as they generally walk to most places. The minimum fuel consumption comes at Rs 3000 every month, said Divya. The perks do not end here.

Rs 50,000 lifestyle sparks reactions online

As per Divya, electricity is ‘surprisingly affordable’ while water is free, considering the abundance of natural water sources in the mountainous region. The combined cost of water and electricity stands at a nominal Rs 1000. Regular bills like Wi-Fi and phone plans come around 2,500. Since Divya and Saurav are blessed with natural, picturesque surroundings, their outings are generally free, as everywhere they go, nature itself offers them plenty of opportunities to explore, unwind, and enjoy the scenic beauty around them.
