Tamil actor Kathir is returning to the OTT space with Lingam, a crime thriller drama that blends ambition, tragedy, and survival into a gritty narrative. The upcoming series has already generated interest among viewers who enjoy intense action dramas, and the makers have now confirmed its digital release plans. With a story centered on a young man whose life takes a dramatic turn after a devastating incident, Lingam is expected to be one of the notable Tamil web series releases of the season.

The makers have officially announced that Lingam will premiere on JioHotstar on June 26, 2026. The streaming platform revealed the release date along with a promotional message that hints at the show's intense atmosphere and the rise of its central character.

Sharing the update, the team wrote: “Fear is the real currency here... and Lingam is the one who shattered it.”


The statement suggests that the series will focus on power struggles, survival, and the transformation of a man who refuses to be controlled by fear. It also gives a glimpse into the larger gangster-driven world that viewers can expect to see unfold across the episodes.

What is Lingam about?

At the heart of Lingam is a young kabaddi champion named Lingam, played by Kathir. He is portrayed as a talented athlete whose biggest ambition is to secure a government job and build a stable future. However, his plans are disrupted when he becomes caught up in a tragic incident during a crucial phase of his life.

What begins as a story of dreams and aspirations soon shifts into something much darker. Circumstances push Lingam into a dangerous environment where survival becomes his primary goal. As he faces setbacks, losses, and increasingly difficult challenges, he evolves into a powerful figure capable of standing up to the forces around him.

The trailer and promotional material point to a narrative filled with action sequences, emotional conflicts, and a character journey that traces Lingam's transformation from an aspiring officer to a formidable presence in the criminal underworld.

Cast and crew of Lingam

The series features Kathir and Divya Bharathi in the lead roles. Supporting performances come from actors including Poornima Ravi, Sathya, Bose Venkat and Nikhila Sankar.

Actor Vemal is also expected to make a special appearance in the series.

Lingam is directed by Lakshmi Saravanakumar and is presented by filmmaker Prasanth Pandiyaraj, who is known for the acclaimed Tamil series Vilangu. The project forms part of JioHotstar's growing lineup of original Tamil content.

Kathir’s recent success in the OTT space

Kathir was most recently seen in the acclaimed crime thriller series Suzhal: The Vortex Season 2, where he reprised his role as Sub-Inspector Chakravarthy.

Created and written by Pushkar and Gayathri, and directed by Bramma G and Sarjun KM, the series followed a complex investigation that unfolded against the backdrop of a coastal town festival. The mystery gradually revealed hidden secrets, unexpected twists, and emotional truths, earning praise from viewers for its layered storytelling.

The positive response to Suzhal: The Vortex Season 2 further strengthened Kathir’s reputation as an actor capable of carrying intense and emotionally driven stories, making expectations higher for Lingam.

Apart from Lingam, Kathir is also part of the upcoming action entertainer I'm Game, headlined by Dulquer Salmaan.

Directed by Nahas Hidayath, the film also stars Antony Varghese, Mysskin and Kayadu Lohar in important roles. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on August 20, 2026, coinciding with the Onam festive season.
