Lights, curtains and flowers: Some easy tips to jazz up your house this festive season

This festive season, take a break from the ordinary! Think out-of-the-box so that you don't end up recycling last year's themes. And we have listed some unique concepts so that your pad becomes the object of much affection and discussion among friends and family.

Let There Be Light

Lights and lamps obviously play an important role in making the house look festive. There is something about earthen lamps, and flickering, fairy lights, that evoke a sense of celebration and joy. You can add a twist to the traditional lighting display by opting for a set of colourful hanging lanterns or glass candle-holders.

Using string lights on the floor, along one wall, can give a unique look as well. Dress up your windows with colourful twinkling 'rice' lights, making them look inviting from the outside. If you want to go the traditional route, you can use lamps in antique brass or copper, in addition to the classic earthen lamps to create that beautiful warm glow.

Curtains & More

A simple change of curtains, or installation of blinds can create the impression of a makeover. So, why not?

Go ahead and experiment. Try and pick colours that add to the festive theme, or select a neutral shade and spice it up with a bright décor focus piece.

Guess Who's Coming To Dinner?

Your dinner table can also be a great space for adding to the sense of celebration. Use a unique centerpiece, with lights or flowers as the central theme. You can also place colour-coordinated napkins, and maybe even a couple of 'diyas' to brighten up the look.

The Fresh Look

Flowers are a wonderful addition to brighten up the house. You can set up a traditional display near the front door to welcome your visitors, or use flower petals in your 'rangoli' along with the traditional colors.

Vases are also an easy way to add a touch of class and celebration. So, go ahead and try experimenting with a few shapes, colours and sizes to find that perfect look. You can amp up the pleasant smell by placing reed diffusers or pot-pourri in a few corners.

Accessories Alert!

Accessories, like mirrors with fancy frames, can add colour to your walls. Bright candle-holders that reflect the warm festive lights, paired with a traditional silver 'thali' can become a great way to draw attention to your decorative style.

So, when you do up your house this year, don't be afraid to experiment with new colours, textures and lights. As you work on the different elements, you'll see that they can come together in unique and beautiful ways this festive season!
