'Lifting weights was used against me': Celina Jaitly reveals bizarre question she faced about her daily workouts in divorce proceedings

Actress Celina Jaitly has opened up about an unusual aspect of her ongoing divorce proceedings with estranged husband Peter Haag. In a recent Instagram post, the actor revealed that the roughly one-and-a-half hours she spends working out every day became something she had to explain in court. She said her weightlifting routine was even used against her and described as “self obsession”.

Celina, who has been speaking publicly about the difficult phase in her personal life, shared a picture of herself from the gym along with a detailed note about why exercise has remained important to her. She explained that working out was not simply about fitness for her but had become one of the few things that gave her some stability when several difficult events were taking place in her life.

Talking about the divorce proceedings, Celina wrote, “Imagine having to defend weightlifting in court. Of all the things filed against me in my bizarre divorce proceedings, perhaps the most incomprehensible was having to answer for the fact that I spent one to 1 hour a day working out.”


She went on to explain that exercise had stayed with her through some of the hardest periods she had faced. For Celina, going to the gym gave her a place where she could deal with grief, anger, fear and anxiety while also trying to rebuild herself.

The actor also spoke about what her body has gone through over the years. She mentioned giving birth to two sets of twins, undergoing a twin C-section, dance injuries, the loss of one of her children and the deaths of both her parents. She also referred to the crisis involving her family, the trauma surrounding her brother and the pain of being separated from her children.

‘The weight on the barbell was never the heaviest weight I carried’

Celina said discipline was something her father, whom she described as a Fauji, had taught her from an early age. She believes that regularly showing up for yourself through sport or exercise is also a form of discipline and accountability, particularly when children are watching.

She questioned whether spending 90 minutes lifting weights could really be considered a problem when the routine had helped her handle everything else going on in her life.

“The weight on the barbell was never the heaviest weight I carried. It was simply the one weight I could choose to put down,” she wrote.

Her post comes amid a difficult legal battle with Peter Haag. Celina had filed a case under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act in 2025, alleging domestic violence and abuse. In May 2026, Mumbai Police registered an FIR against Haag following her complaint, with allegations including cruelty, physical harm, criminal intimidation and sustained harassment. A Look Out Circular was also reportedly issued after alleged non-cooperation with the investigation. The allegations are subject to ongoing legal proceedings.

Celina and Peter Haag married in 2010 and became parents to twin boys in 2012. They welcomed another set of twins in 2017, but one of their children died due to a health condition.

The actor has also previously spoken about being separated from her children during the ongoing legal dispute. Her latest post, however, focused on something much more personal to her — the role that exercise and discipline have played while she has dealt with one difficult situation after another.
