Figures do all the talking and GAP has the numbers to prove it, Rs 23 lakh in average sales every day. In its first month in India, the American clothing brand is second only to Zara, surpassing every other retailer in sales during June.

Despite cutthroat competition and plans to open 40 outlets in the next few years, GAP India Business Head Oliver Kaye focusses on a healthy work-life balance.

"I have two key hobbies — travel and photography. They go hand in hand. I've travelled to over 70 countries. My only tip is that life is for living," he tells ETPanache.

"It's not about how many hours you put in, but what you achieve in every hour you are working. I take time off every three months, to reflect on the past three months and plan for the coming three."
