There are more gadgets than we can count at CES — the world’s largest consumer electronics expo in Las Vegas. ET rounds up just a few from the first day that are sure to excite the geek in you.

LG’s Rollable OLED TV
You like large TVs but don’t like how much of your living space they take up? LG’s got you covered! This new 65-inch OLED TV is called the Signature OLED TV R — the ‘R’ stands for revolution — and it can completely disappear into its enclosure when not in use.

There are actually three modes: Full View (with the entire display extended), Line View (partially unrolled, for tasks that do not require a large screen) and Zero View (entire TV inside enclosure). Plus, the enclosure is not just an empty box — it’s a 100 watt Dolby Atmos sound system. We knew that OLED panels were flexible but this is taking things to an all-new level.

A 4K TV that rolls up is going to be very expensive and of course look good in your living room. A TV that is there when you want it and disappears when you don’t. This is the kind of product that blends-in with the aesthetics of your home. It drops slowly and steadily into the base and, with the push of a button, rises back up in about 10 seconds.

Apple was the first to put ECG measurement into a wearable but this brand is not far behind. The first thing you’ll notice though, is that this is an analogue watch — no screen! It has simple hands to tell the time and activity (steps, movement, stairs) tracker.

Apple_Reuters

The ECG sensors are underneath the watch and on the case/bezel. Like with the Apple Watch, you need to place a finger from your other hand on the watch to compete the circuit and record an ECG. The data is captured and stored in the companion app within 20 seconds and you have the option to share it as a PDF with your doctor. Now all we need to do is wait for these wearable ECG monitors to get the necessary approvals from the authorities in each country. Hopefully, this will be in 2019.

ThirdEye X2 & Nreal Mixed Reality Glasses
Mixed reality (MR) is the next logical step after AR and VR. It’s where your real world can have digital sections overlaid in real time. ThirdEye and Nreal showed off ready MR glasses. ThirdEye’s unit are the smallest, fully contained MR glasses.

They use an Android-based operating system and have multiple cameras and sensors for simultaneous localization and mapping. Nreal offers the lightest (85 grams) MR glasses but with a caveat. They need to be connected via a USB cable to an external computing pack. All the processing and the heavy battery is in the external pack. The advantage is that you can use them like regular sunglasses and plug in when you want the MR experience.

Harley Davidson Livewire
The Livewire is this iconic two-wheeler maker’s first electric motorcycle. It was first shown off in 2014 and has been in development. CES is when the company announced that it’s available to pre-order at select dealerships in the US and Western Europe (availability in other markets has not been announced, just a cryptic ‘select additional markets will follow’).

HarleyDavidsonLiveWire

Apart from the stunning design, you get a completely silent motorcycle (unfortunately, you will miss the signature thump of the twin cylinder engine), 177 km range, zero gears (just twist and go) and a staggering 0-100kmph time of 3.5 seconds. Prices start at US$ 29,799 and deliveries start in Aug 2019.

LG Gram 17 Laptop
If you want a large screen laptop, you have to be prepared for some back problems — carrying around all that weight will take a toll on most people. LG’s Gram 17 is a 17-inch laptop with MIL-STD-810G durability and 19.5-hour battery that weighs an incredible 1.3kg only.

LGGram

To put that into context, that’s about as much as a premium 13.3-inch laptop. Thanks to the slimmer bezels, they have a 17-inch screen in a 15.6-inch form factor. Plus you get a slightly wider 16:10 aspect ratio screen (2560 x 1600 pixels), 8th gen Intel Core processors, backlit keyboard, glass trackpad, up to 16GB RAM and up to 256GB storage.

Asus ZenBook S with 4-side Nanoedge
2.5 millimetres. That’s the width of the bezels on this beautiful new laptop from Asus. That’s thinner than some current generation smartphones! The clever design has an extended portion for the webcam which doubles up as a space for you to open the screen. Asus says that this ZenBook S is 4-sided Nanoedge though that’s a bit of a stretch. The screen opens in such a way that the bottom bezel slips under the machine itself, hiding the fact that it’s thicker than the other three bezels. Still, they deserve some credit for cool design. As for specs, it’s a 13.9inch LED backlit IPS screen, weighs about 1.1kg and is just 12.9mm thick. This also makes it one of the thinnest laptops with a discrete graphics chip.

Optoma P1 4K projector
This is much more than just an ultra-short throw projector: it’s an all-in-one, 4K entertainment system. The P1 by Optoma is a 4K laser projector that you can place right up against a wall to create a massive 120-inch display.

Optoma

There’s 3,000 lumens of brightness, HDR10 support, Wi-Fi, support for Alexa, Google Home and IFTTT, a built in smart interface with Netflix and a built in Dolby sound system with sound by NuForce (an upcoming name in premium audio components). Just this one unit is enough to create a cinema anywhere as long as you have a large white surface. It should be priced at roughly US$2,999.

Kodak Smile Camera
Digital photography has taken away a lot of the charm of old school photography. Holding and sharing actual prints was a joy that many millennials will never get to experience — unless they get one of these! Kodak — they need no introduction — wants to bring a little joy back into casual photography with the Smile Classic instant camera.

KodakSmileCamera

It looks a little like a Polaroid instant camera but it’s actually a tiny, 10-Megapixel digital camera and colour printer in one device. There’s a pop-up viewfinder, flash, 10-second timer and microSD slot. It can print 3.5 x 4.25-inch colour prints on Zink (Zero-ink) paper. And the best part? You can also pair it with your smartphone over Bluetooth to print other photos.

Acer Swift 7 Laptop
Looks like slim bezels are finally making their way to laptops after conquering the smartphone world. The obvious advantage, besides looking very futuristic, is that you can have a large screen in a small form factor.

AcerSwift7

The 14-inch Swift 7 has a fanless design, is powered by Windows 10, uses 8th gen Intel Core processors, Gorilla Glass 6 protection on the touchscreen, has dual USB C ports, 10-hour battery life and a 92% screen-to-body ratio. To top it all, it weighs an incredible 890 grams. Prices start at US$ 1,699 and you can choose between 8/16GB RAM and 256/512GB of PCIe solid state storage.

Omron HeartGuide BP Watch
Your blood pressure varies through the day, so what better way to track it by wearing a blood pressure monitor on your wrist. This is the first wearable BP monitor and it’s made by Omron, one of the leaders in portable and home BP monitors.

OmronHeartGuide

It actually looks like a smartwatch and will also tell you the time, number of steps, calories burned and so on. But it’s the BP technology that’s most interesting. It’s just like the typical BP monitor with inflating cuff, but miniaturized to fit your wrist. You’re required to hold the watch up to heart level to take a measurement and the battery will need to be charged two or three times a week (or after every 40 BP readings).
