Putting an extra screen in a smartphone sounds like a quirky idea and that is exactly what LG has done with its G8x ThinQ. The second screen comes in a case that can be connected to the phone and acts as an additional display.
While this feature makes the smartphone looks distinct and fun to use, the twin screens are not really high on utility.

Open the case and you see the main display – a 6.4-inch FullVision OLED screen that produces vivid colours and offers ample brightness levels. The second screen comes in handy for multitasking as you can open two apps on two displays.

For instance, you can open a YouTube video on one screen and read on the other display. It’s confusing to begin with but once you get a hang of it, it works well. The biggest use we found of the secondary display was that it could be turned into a gamepad for games such as Call of Duty Mobile.
The two screens naturally add to the phone’s weight (192 gm) but it does not feel that heavy. The secondary display aside, the LG G8x ThinQ is pretty much a flagship phone. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and has 6 GB RAM, which is quite a capable configuration for day-to-day tasks. The 4000mAh battery lasts for a day but the device charges slowly despite coming with a fast charger.
LG has bucked the trend of putting three cameras and has put in just two lenses: a 12 MP primary sensor and a 13 MP ultra-wide sensor. Both the lenses combined click reasonably good images, which won’t dazzle you but neither do they disappoint. Most images have punchy colours in low light and daylight.
This isn’t a phone that will catch the fancy of most buyers given the high price tag, but LG has made a device that scores high on innovation.
