Let's talk about Fontana Del Vino
WHAT’S THAT?
A wine fountain installed by Dora Sarchese.

WHO’S DORA?
A local vineyard in Italy.

OK. DID YOU JUST SAY WINE FOUNTAIN?
Yes. Dora Sarchese has installed a fountain — Fontana Del Vino — that emits rivulets of red wine instead of water, 24*7. And it’s absolutely free of cost.

WHERE EXACTLY IS THIS FOUNTAIN?
It is located in Caldari di Ortona, in Abruzzo, which lies along the Cammino di San Tommaso, a popular pilgrimage route. Apparently, it was installed to quench the thirst of the thousands of tourists and pilgrims who make the journey from Rome to Ortona to visit the city’s cathedral.

A DRUNK PILGRIMAGE?
Dora Sarchese said its free wine fountain was not for people to get drunk, but was a gesture to the town.

WHO DESIGNED THIS?
It was designed by architect Rocco Valentini, who has also created the Di Sipio winery in Ripa Teatina, Italy. GO ROCCO!!!

For those of you who seem to relish the idea of alcohol fountains, the Republic of Georgia, has a version too. Known as The Chacha Tower, it dispenses free flowing chacha (a potent Georgian moonshine), for 10 minutes every day at 7 pm.

ISN’T ITALY HOME TO SOME OF THE OLDEST WINE PRODUCING REGIONS IN THE WORLD?
It is. And now wine lovers have an even better excuse to hop over on a plane.
