South OTT releases of the week
Korean Kanakaraju – NetflixVarun Tej takes on a different role in Korean Kanakaraju, a Telugu horror comedy directed by Merlapaka Gandhi. He plays Kanakaraju, a bhajana troupe leader who becomes possessed by the spirit of a deceased Korean man. The story takes him to South Korea along with his love interest Chaitra and friend Krishnappa as they try to break a mysterious curse. Korean Kanakaraju stars Varun Tej, Ritika Nayak, Satya and Daksha Nagarkar and will start streaming on Netflix on September 4.
The film combines supernatural elements with comedy as Kanakaraju finds himself caught in an unusual situation far from home.
The Court – JioHotstar
The Court is a Tamil courtroom drama centred on Yazhini, a young lawyer who gets a difficult case that puts her directly against her own father. Her father is a respected lawyer with years of experience, but Yazhini is determined to make a name for herself rather than remain in his shadow.
The courtroom battle becomes more personal as Yazhini has to challenge her father's experience and reputation while trying to prove herself. The Court stars R Yogalakshmi and Arjun Syam Gopan in the lead roles and will be available to stream on JioHotstar from September 4.
DC – SunNXT
For viewers looking for romance, action and drama, DC is another Tamil release arriving this week. The film follows Devadas, a rebellious man who becomes a target after helping a farmer's family. His life takes another complicated turn after losing his love Parvathy and later meeting Chandra, a woman who looks just like her.
Directed by Arun Matheswaran, the film follows Devadas as he faces betrayal, threats and a difficult relationship with his estranged father. DC stars Lokesh Kanagaraj, Wamiqa Gabbi and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy, along with Thalaivasal Vijay, Avinash Raghudevan, Balaji Deviprasad, Sharath Raj and Kasthuri Raja. The Tamil romantic action drama will stream on SunNXT from September 4.
Jagamae Sangeetham – Prime Video
Music takes centre stage in Jagamae Sangeetham, a Telugu musical drama set in the temple town of Vaikuntapuram. The story follows Balu, a young musician who grows up under the influence of his respected grandfather, Shastri Garu.
Balu's world changes when he meets Kavitha, a pop singer from a very different musical background. Their relationship makes him question the traditions and musical legacy he has grown up with. Jagamae Sangeetham stars Akshay Lagusani, Prakash Raj and Sushmita Shetty, along with Meka Srikanth, Madhubala, Suman, Sijju Menon and Shafi. The film will begin streaming on Prime Video on September 4.
Unmadham – SonyLIV
Malayalam cinema brings a mystery thriller to OTT with Unmadham. The story follows Shelly, a civil police officer who also dreams of becoming a screenwriter. When he returns to an old case involving the mysterious death of a young woman, he sees an opportunity to turn the strange investigation into a film story.
However, his curiosity takes him much deeper into the case. As he investigates, unsettling experiences begin to blur the line between memory and reality, while his personal life also comes under pressure. Directed by Kiran Das, Unmadham stars Kunchacko Boban and Lijomol Jose in the lead roles and will stream on SonyLIV from September 4.
Bigg Boss South – JioHotstar
If scripted stories are not your thing, Bigg Boss South is returning with a major multi-language launch. The popular reality-show franchise will bring together its Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada editions, giving viewers four separate seasons filled with new contestants, tasks, arguments and unexpected moments.
The new seasons will be led by four popular stars. Nagarjuna Akkineni will host the Telugu edition, Mohanlal will return for Malayalam, Kichcha Sudeepa will lead the Kannada version and Vijay Sethupathi will host the Tamil edition. Bigg Boss South will be available in Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada on JioHotstar from September 6.
