In her lifetime, the veteran star was honoured by several prestigious awards including the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, the Padma Bhushan, the Padma Vibhushan and several Filmfare and National Film Awards.
Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who died at the of 92 on Sunday in a Mumbai hospital, was fondly known as the 'Nightingale of India'. She was admitted to the Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital in January after testing positive for the coronavirus.
The recipient of the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, Mangeshkar ruled over Indian cinema with her melodious voice for decades.
Born in 1929 in pre-independence India, the singer enthralled music-mad Indians with her lilting voice and captivating range, singing everything from patriotic songs to romantic hits, both in films and albums.

The 92-year-old will receive a state funeral, and the Government will observe state mourning with the flag at half-mast through Monday, the Home Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.
Mangeshkar's soothing voice has rung out of television sets, on crackly airwaves and from movie theatres for most of independent India's three quarters of a century, making hers the defining voice of many generations.
"I am anguished beyond words," Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter as he paid tribute to the late legendary singer.

Lata Mangeshkar was born in 1929 in Indore. She was the eldest daughter of Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, a Marathi musician and a theater actor. A lesser-known fact about the singing legend is that Mangeshkar’s family’s last name used to be Hardikar but her father changed it to Mangeshkar in order to identify with his family’s native town, Mangeshi, in Goa.
