Lanterns season 1 finale set to be released on Sunday: When and where to watch episode 8?

Just one more episode of Lanterns' first season is left, but there are many key questions the series has to answer when it returns for the finale this weekend. The show continues to impress with high viewership figures and a near-perfect 92 percent critics' score on the Rotten Tomatoes website based on nearly 150 reviews.

Lanterns stars Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. The support cast includes Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Jason Ritter, Poorna Jagannathan, Laura Linney, Ulrich Thomsen, Nicole Ari Parker, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Sherman Augustus, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Nathan Fillion. The DC Universe series is created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. Mundy also serves as the showrunner. It is the first live-action project focused on Green Lantern since the 2011 film Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan.

What to expect from the finale?

As the HBO detective show heads into its season 1 finale, Lanterns will have to solve the mystery of Hal's death. A few suspects might have killed Hal, including Sinestro, Noah Macon, Sheriff Kerry, Billy Macon, and the Guardians of the Universe. But, new trailers for the series have also suggested that Hal might still be alive.

When and where to watch?

Unlike many superhero shows, Lanterns has followed a weekly release format. All of Lanterns season 1 episodes have been released on HBO and HBO Max on the same day and at the same time. That schedule will continue for the season finale, which is set to be released on HBO and HBO Max on Sunday (October 4) at 9 pm eastern time (ET).

Will Lanterns return for S2?

Lanterns has not been officially renewed for a second season yet. But thanks to its viewership numbers and reviews, a sequel might just be on the cards. In fact, it's possible that HBO and DC Studios may announce a renewal as soon as the first season's finale concludes.

Lanterns' replacement on HBO

Lanterns season 1 had begun airing on HBO and HBO Max on August 16, with the superhero series replacing the Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon. After Lanterns' S1 finale, HBO's next show in the 9 pm timeslot will be the three-part documentary The Pet Cemetery Murders: A Ghost Story, which debuts on Sunday (October 11).
