Kumbh Mela sensation Monsalisa Bhonsle who married actor Farman Khan hares the truth behind their wedding: ‘He didn’t want…’
Internet sensation Monalisa Bhonsle has married actor Farman Khan in Kerala. The wedding followed Hindu traditions, with Bhonsle emphasizing her faith remains unchanged. She sought police protection to proceed with the marriage, stating her father...

Before the ceremony, the young woman had approached law-enforcement authorities in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday requesting security assistance so she could remain with her partner and proceed with the marriage. A day later, she spoke to journalists during a media interaction and clarified that the relationship should not be interpreted through the controversial narrative of religious conversion. She emphasized that her faith had remained unchanged and that the wedding had been conducted strictly in accordance with Hindu customs.
Appearing before reporters with vermilion applied on her forehead as a symbol of marriage, she explained that the union had taken place through traditional rituals. She also suggested that the decision to marry had largely been driven by her own determination. Sitting beside her during the interaction, Farman Khan echoed similar sentiments, stressing that both of them honor each other’s beliefs and traditions. According to him, neither partner intends to change their religion, as they both believe that mutual respect is more important than religious differences. He added that their shared profession as performers has taught them to appreciate diverse cultures and faiths.
“We got married as per Hindu rituals. He didn’t want to marry me, but I only forced him to marry me,” she stated.
Earlier, the couple had arrived at the Thampanoor Police Station, accompanied by members of the film crew with whom they had been working. At the station, Monalisa alleged that her father had attempted to compel her to return to her hometown against her wishes. Police officials later explained that she had been in the Kerala capital city for a movie shoot. She also revealed that her parents had wanted her to marry another man from the family, specifically her aunt’s son. However, she expressed strong opposition to that arrangement, explaining that she could not accept the idea of marrying a cousin.
Although her father had traveled with her to Kerala, the young woman acknowledged that he had not attended the wedding ceremony. She admitted that he was aware of the marriage but remained upset about the decision. According to her, they had met recently, yet his disappointment was still evident.
Police authorities clarified that the young woman had clearly informed them she would not accompany her father and intended to proceed with her partner. Officers explained that since she had reached adulthood, she had the legal right to make personal decisions regarding marriage. Some uncertainty initially arose over her age, but the couple addressed the matter by presenting her birth certificate during the press briefing, which confirmed that she had recently turned eighteen.
Under Indian legal provisions, women are permitted to marry after reaching eighteen years of age, while the minimum age for men is twenty-one. Once individuals become adults, they are legally free to choose their spouse without requiring approval from their families.
Monalisa Bhonsle originally attracted nationwide attention when a digital content creator uploaded a video of her selling rudraksha bead garlands during the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj the previous year. The clip quickly spread across social media platforms, transforming her into an overnight online sensation. Meanwhile, her husband Farman Khan hails from Baghpat district and works as an actor appearing in Hindi, Malayalam, and Tamil film projects. He has also revealed that he is preparing to begin work on a forthcoming Malayalam-language movie.
