It's officially confirmed! After massive global success and bagging awards, KPop Demon Hunter 2 will return for a sequel, directed and written by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. The announcement has excited fans around the world, especially after the original animated film became a huge hit on OTT. While the project is still in its early stages, the creators have confirmed that the story of the demon-hunting K-pop group will continue.

The sequel will once again be produced by Sony Pictures Animation in partnership with Netflix. The original film made a major impact on streaming after its release, eventually becoming one of the most watched movies on the platform. Its unique mix of music, action and fantasy helped it build a large global fanbase.

The story of KPop Demon Hunters follows a fictional K-pop trio called Huntrix, whose music secretly protects the world from dangerous supernatural forces. By day they perform as global pop stars, but behind the scenes they fight demons that threaten humanity. The concept, combining the energy of K-pop with animated action and fantasy storytelling, quickly caught the attention of viewers across different countries.

India release date and OTT platform

As of now, the makers have not announced an official India release date or time for KPop Demon Hunters 2. Since the original film premiered on Netflix, the sequel will also release directly on the same platform. However, fans may have to wait for some time because animated projects of this scale usually take time to complete. Reports indicate that timeline may change as the film is still in early development.

The soundtrack of KPop Demon Hunters played a big role in its popularity. In the first movie, the animated group Huntrix is voiced and sung by real-life artists who bring the characters to life. The music is performed by EJAE as Rumi, Audrey Nuna as Mira, and Rei Ami as Zoey.

These singers provide the vocals for the fictional trio. Their songs became widely popular after the film’s release, especially the track Golden, which turned into a fan favourite and added to the movie’s success.

What to expect from the sequel

The creators have hinted that the sequel will explore the characters and their world in greater depth. According to Chris Appelhans, the team has developed a strong connection with the characters over time. He explained, "We’re excited to write their next chapter, challenge them, and watch them evolve, and continue pushing the boundaries of how music, animation, and story can come together."

Meanwhile, Maggie Kang has expressed pride in how audiences connected with the Korean-inspired story and its characters. She believes "There’s so much more to this world we have built and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning."

Fans of Huntrix will have to wait for official release details, stay tuned for more details!
