Hurun Research Institute has published the 2020 global self-made women billionaires list. Of the top 10 ranks, nine are held by Chinese women and one by an American. The Asian nation overall dominates the list, with 61 ranks in the top 100 list. The US comes second with 19 ranks and the UK holds the third place with 6 ranks.
India has just two. Biocon’s Kiran Mazumdar Shaw (age 67) at rank 31 with a net worth of $2.3 billion and Radha Vembu (age 45) of Zoho at rank 60 with a net worth of $ 1.4 billion.
The report throws up an interesting data point. Of the world's top 20 richest women, only 3 are self-made. The other 17 have inherited wealth. Comparatively, of the world ’s top 20 richest men, 17 are self-made and just three have inherited their wealth.
The age factor The average age of the rank holders is 60 years. On a related note, Rupert Hoogewerf, chairman and chief researcher of Hurun Report said, “There are, however, worryingly few young women entrepreneurs in the world. In the recent Hurun under-40 richest in the world, there were only 2 women, with the other fifty all men.”
Kylie Jenner is the world’s youngest self made female according to Hurun Research Institute. Of course, reality TV star Kylie Jenner at 22 is giving a whole new spin to the terms young entrepreneur and billionaire. She launched Kylie Cosmetics in 2016 as well as Kylie Shop. The IIFL Wealth Hurun India Women Rich List is out. In its second year of existence, the list continues to celebrate women wealth creators in the country. And despite strong murmurs of an economic slowdown, this list has something to cheer about, after all.
