Katrina Kaif recently opened up on the trolling she faced
Katrina Kaif was recently hit with a wave of trolls who bodyshamed her relentlessly on social media. The ‘Welcome’ actress, who is known to be reticent, finally broke her silence on the trolling she faced. The star, who was at a promotional event for her beauty brand Kay Beauty in London, spoke extensively about not letting social media chatter and trends affect our self-esteem. She also spoke about the futility of trying to appeal to everyone and looking for validation from the world at large. She reflected on a bittersweet truth: sometimes the world is going to celebrate you, and sometimes you have to become your own biggest cheerleader and build your self-esteem from within so it is not dependent on others' opinions.

“I think we really need to be careful of letting the narrative on social media affect our self-worth and our value, because there are so many opinions out there that if we’re going to start trying to cater to all of them, I think it really hampers your ability to make choices for yourself,” she said.

“Personally, for me, if every time that I faced critiques or comments, I let that dictate my actions, I think I would have been paralysed with fear and unable to move ahead in my life or in any sphere of life. There are times when the world is going to celebrate you, and other times you have to really be your own biggest cheerleader,” she added.

Katrina also explained the philosophy behind Kay Beauty’s tagline, It’s K to Be You, which encourages people to embrace their individuality, accept themselves and remain authentic to who they are in the present moment. She emphasised that a person’s identity, feelings and perspectives naturally evolve with time, shaped by changing circumstances and different stages of life. According to Katrina, self-acceptance means recognising and appreciating oneself through these transitions rather than feeling compelled to fit into a fixed image or meet others’ expectations.

She also urged her fans not to build their self-confidence on the basis of how they looked. She explained that there will be times when you feel like you are at the top of your game and looking impeccable,, and there will be days you won’t be looking pretty. However, the key to having a healthy sense of self-esteem is not to take yourself too seriously and go with the flow when needed.

“There are times where you feel like you’re acing everything in life, and there are other times where you feel like, I just can’t get anything right.'" There are times where you feel like you’re looking and feeling like the best version of yourself, and other times I think you’re kind of on a journey to get there. I think it’s good to wear it all lightly and not take yourself too seriously, and just have fun with it,” she said.

Katrina faced backlash on social media after attending the Ambani family’s Ganesh Chaturthi festivities in Mumbai with her husband, Vicky Kaushal, in September. Photographs and video clips from the occasion sparked discussions about her looks and weight, with some users commenting on how her appearance had changed following childbirth.

The incident also drew a strong response from her admirers, who condemned the body-shaming and highlighted the unfair pressure women often face over their physical appearance after becoming mothers.
