Kate Middleton and Prince William are reportedly at loggerheads over the future of their son Prince George’s education. The Princess of Wales and Prince William’s oldest child, Prince George, is preparing to take the next step in his education as his time at his current preparatory school nears its conclusion.

Prince William hopes his 11-year-old son will continue his education at Eton, the renowned all-boys boarding school he himself attended. However, according to royal insiders, the Princess of Wales favors a mixed-gender school such as Marlborough College in Wiltshire.

Kate has a personal connection to Marlborough, having been a student there from 1996 to 2000.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl told the Mirror that Kate is determined not to part George from his siblings. “Kate’s preference is for George to be at a co-education school, so he can be with his siblings, which is what Kate experienced at Marlborough with her sister, Pippa, and brother, James. It was a very happy school life for her, but William has very fond memories of Eton, which has a long history with aristocrats and members of the royal family,” she told the publication.

Kate Thinks Eton Too Stuff For George

While William’s eldest is reportedly excited to follow his father’s footsteps, the Princess of Wales is not that impressed by Eton and has often described the all-boy’s elite school as “too stuffy.”

Nicholl suggested that Prince George might not follow the same path as his father, Prince William, just as William chose not to attend the Scottish boarding school Gordonstoun, where his father, King Charles III, studied.

“There’s always the chance for traditions to evolve,” Nicholl shared with The Mirror. “William and Harry didn’t follow their father’s lead by attending Gordonstoun, and it’s possible George could break away from the Eton tradition and go elsewhere.”

She further remarked, “Ultimately, the decision will rest with William and Kate, ensuring George’s best interests remain the top priority.”

George is currently enrolled at Lambrook, a co-educational school for boys and girls aged 3 to 13 in the Berkshire countryside, with his siblings, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, per a BBC report.
