Karisma Kapoor’s co-star reveals why 'over ambitious' actress stopped working with her 'Hero No 1' Govinda: 'Maybe the love....'

Karisma Kapoor was one of the most sought after stars in Bollywood in the 1990s. The first woman in the Kapoor family to succeed as a mainstream actress, Karisma starred in many memorable hits such as Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Raja Hindustani, Hero No 1 etc. A veteran actress has now stated that she is apparently hardworking but a diva on sets.

In a recent interview, actress Shagufta Ali revealed her experience of working with the Raja Hindustani star, why her popular on-screen pairing with Govinda came to an end. In a chat with Siddharth Kannan, Shagufta who worked with the actress in 90s hits like Hero No 1 claimed that she was very abrupt in many of her scenes and refused to interact with other actors.

“When you’re doing scenes with your co-stars, there has to be give and take. If you don’t even ask the other actor a question and only respond with one or two words, how am I supposed to perform? I can’t just keep talking by myself. If we’re doing a scene together or even giving an interview together, both people should speak. Every action needs a reaction..” she said.


She also described the ‘Zubeida’ actress as “over ambitious, with an attitude”.

“Karisma was over-ambitious. She was very hardworking, but she also had too much attitude. It was evident everywhere. The attitude you bring to the set and the way you behave make a difference too..” she said.

She also shared her opinion on why Govinda and Karisma’s onscreen pairing eventually faded. She implied that maybe Karisma lost interest in the pairing. She also hinted that the audience might have grown bored of seeing the duo together in many films.

"“Maybe she lost interest. Maybe the love for it was gone. You never know with heroines and their moods.."

“The pairing lasted as long as it was meant to. People watched them for as long as they wanted to. After a point, perhaps the audience got an overdose of seeing the same couple together," she added.

Karisma and Govinda worked in several iconic films such as Coolie No. 1, Raja Babu, Saajan Chale Sasural, Hero No. 1, Haseena Maan Jaayegi.
