Karan Johar feels disrespected by his 'own industry'? Director reacts to 'poor taste' mimicry of him. What he said?

Karan Johar, a veteran in the Indian film industry with over 25 years of experience, recently took to social media to express his sadness and disappointment over a mimicry incident involving him on a reputed TV channel. The filmmaker, known for his contributions to Bollywood, shared a heartfelt note detailing his feelings about the incident.

Karan Johar's Emotional Reaction

In his Instagram story, Karan Johar revealed how he and his mother were watching television when they came across a promo of a reality comedy show on a supposedly respectable channel. The show featured a comic mimicking him in what he described as "exceptionally poor taste."

This incident struck a chord with Karan, who expressed his sentiments, stating, "A comic was mimicking me in exceptionally poor taste... I expect this from trolls and faceless and nameless people but when your own industry can disrespect someone who has been in the business for over 25 years it speaks volumes about the times we live in... this doesn't even anger me it just makes me sad!"

The mimicry incident gained attention on social media, with many speculating about the identity of the comedian involved. While Karan did not directly name the individual or the show, there were indications pointing towards comedian Kettan Singh, who is part of the comedy show 'Madness Machayenge India Ko Hasayenge' on Sony TV.


In response to the controversy, Kettan Singh issued a public apology to Karan Johar, expressing remorse if his actions had caused any hurt to the filmmaker.

Speaking to Times Now, he said, “First of all, whatever impersonation I do because I watch a lot of Karan Johar on the coffee show, I am a fan of his work. If my actions hurt him, I would like to apologize to him. My intention was not to hurt him. I just wanted to entertain the audience but if I did something extra, I would like to say sorry to him."

Ekta Kapoor Stands By Karan Johar

Support for Karan Johar poured in from his industry peers, notably from TV's queen and Karan's friend, Ekta Kapoor. She echoed Karan's sentiments about the incident, highlighting the prevalence of such humor on shows and even at award functions. Ekta Kapoor urged Karan to ask them to imitate one of his movies or classics instead.

She said, “Happened so many times! Ugly humor sometimes on shows. N even. Award functions. N then. They expect u to attend ! Karan pls ask them. To imitate. One movie. Or classic of urs!”
