Food forms an important part of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Among the many desserts to fruits that are part of the festivities, modaks and ladoo often top the popularity list.
If you're not a fan of store-bought sweets, these recipes by Chef Kasiviswanathan are sure to be a hit with you.
Cashewnuts: 100 gm Ghee: 50 ml Cardamom powder: 1 tbsp Oil: 2 kg Water: 700 ml Method - Mix besan, water, colour to form a batter; keep aside

-Combine water and sugar to form sugar syrup; add lemon in to it - Keep aside - Heat oil in a pan - Make small boondi using a laddoo jara (cooking stencil) and put in hot oil

- Remove when cooked - Mix boondi with sugar syrup and keep it aside for at least 30 minutes - Remove from syrup and mix with dry nuts - Make small dumplings and serve Kara modak
Method - In a heavy bottom pan , take ghee, mustard seed, jeera seed, curry leaves, ginger, coriander leaves, coconut, - once its turn golden brown, add water bring to boil, - add rice flour and mix thoroughly, make a dumplings out of it, - steam it with help of steamer till its cooked at least 10 minutes 5, assemble in the plate according to the above picture.

‘Modarpriya’ was the title given to Ganesha because of his love for modaks. According to Hindu mythology, once Goddess Parvati offered her two sons, Karthik and Ganesh, a modak. While both the brothers wanted to eat it, neither wanted to share. So as a contest she asked them to take three rounds of the world and the winner would get the modak as reward.
While Karthik left with his peacock as a ride, Ganpati stayed back and took three rounds around his parents (Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati). When asked about his action, he said that they meant the world to him.
