The 42-year-old household name in the department of comedy has partnered with streaming service Netflix for a brand new comedy show. With this, Sharma makes his debut on the streaming service.
Netflix India made the announcement on social media with a video skit that also featured his other partners-in-crime from the 'Kapil Sharma Show' - Archana Puran Singh, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda and Rajiv Thakur. However, Sumona Chakravarti and Chandan Prabhakar are not shown in the video. Singh was brought in to replace Navjot Singh Sidhu after the latter was found guilty in a corruption case.
Some fans on Instagram were disappointed that the comedian-singer was not returning to the small screen with a bang. "Matlab TV pe naheen aao gay?" (does this mean you won't be returning to TV?) rued a fan. Another remarked, "Sir it won't go good, everyone loves to watch you on TV not on OTT."
Monika Shergill, Vice President, Content, Netflix India, said Kapil Sharma is a huge entertainer whose legacy and comedy has made him a household name across India for many years.
'The Kapil Sharma Show' made its debut on Sony in 2016. From Shah Rukh Khan to Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn, the show has seen a starry line-up promoting their latest work.
