Singer
Kanye West throwing his metaphorical hat into the ring for a 2020 run for the
White House begs the question, “Why not 2016?” As it is, the race has all manner of colourful personalities, and a singer of West’s stature would definitely add heft to the general electioneering. His mere candidacy would doubtless steal the limelight from all but the most heavyweight fellow hopefuls. And if nothing else, his speeches on the campaign could probably be spun off into a new album or two even if he does not make it to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The added attraction, of course, would be the prospect of
Kim Kardashian as
First Lady, who would trump
Michelle Obama in the TV ratings game at least. Besides a total makeover for the White House and Air Force One, her inevitable push for a reality show in the souped-up settings would certainly bring the goings-on in Washington DC’s best address closer to a whole new audience. A very different sequel to The West Wing can be also be contemplated.
Even if, as he revealed before the Video Music Awards ceremony, some inhaled inducements may be to blame for his pronouncements, his future quest to become Leader of the Free World may serve as inspiration to others in his industry to take the plunge.
