Mahival told HT, that Ranaut’s insensitive remarks must have wounded Kaur, thereby, prompting her to act instinctively. He also said that along with soldiers, the farmers were the backbone of the nation and their concerns shouldn’t be neglected.
“I learned through the media that something happened at the Chandigarh airport. I now understand that this incident occurred during the checking of Kangana’s mobile and purse. Kangana had said during the farmers’ protest that women were there for ₹100. After the argument, my sister must have become emotionally angry, which led to this incident. Both soldiers and farmers are important and are fulfilling their duties in every way. We fully support her in this matter,” he told Hindustan Times.
Mahival is a farmer leader serving as the organization secretary of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee in Kapurthala.
Kaur’s Mother Backs Her Daughter
In an interview with the news agency PTI, Kaur's mother Veer fiercely defended her daughter’s action. “Meri beti Kulwinder Kaur ne jo kiya, theek kiya, ’’ (Whatever my daughter did, was absolutely justified), she told PTI. In response to the incident, the ‘Gangster’ star later shared a video where she expressed concern at the growing “terrorism” in Punjab. “I have been getting a lot of phone calls from the media and my well-wishers. I am safe, I am perfectly fine. What happened at the Chandigarh airport today was during the security check. When I left after the security check, the CISF personnel hit me on my face. She abused me. When I asked her why she did it, she told me that she supports farmers’ protests. I am safe but my concern is, how do we handle terror in Punjab?” she said.
Ranaut recently became the first Himachali woman, not hailing from the erstwhile royal family, to become an MP. She bagged a seat in the Lok Sabha, Mandi.
