Kangana Ranaut compares her struggles with Shah Rukh Khan, says SRK had advantages she never had

Actress and politician Kangana Ranaut once again made headlines for her bold remarks during her appearance at a PHDCCI event in Delhi. Known for never mincing words, the Tanu Weds Manu star drew a comparison between her rise in Bollywood and Shah Rukh Khan’s, claiming that her path was far more challenging because of her humble origins in a remote village.

A Small-Town Girl’s Unlikely Rise

Kangana reflected on her success story, emphasizing how rare it was for someone from an unknown village like Bhamla in Himachal Pradesh to reach the top of mainstream Hindi cinema. She said her achievements were born not of privilege but of self-belief and brutal honesty—qualities that, she believes, set her apart. Raised in a modest household in Bhamla, she left home at just fifteen to chase her dreams. By nineteen, she had made her debut in Gangster, a film that established her as a powerful performer.

"There is probably nobody else who came from a village and got such success in the mainstream. You talk about Shah Rukh Khan. They are from Delhi, convent-educated. I was from a village that nobody would have even heard of – Bhamla..." she said.


Over the years, Kangana has not only cemented her place in the industry but also earned widespread acclaim, winning four National Film Awards. Her fearless personality and outspoken nature have made her both a celebrated and controversial figure in Indian cinema and politics.

The Contrasting Journey of Shah Rukh Khan

In contrast, Shah Rukh Khan’s story began in Delhi, where he grew up in the Rajendra Nagar neighborhood. His father, Meer Taj Mohammed Khan, was a freedom fighter and a follower of Abdul Ghaffar Khan’s nonviolent movement, while his mother, Lateef Fatima, served as a magistrate. His father pursued multiple business ventures, one of which was running a restaurant, and the family maintained a modest, middle-class lifestyle, residing in rented homes throughout Delhi.

What Lies Ahead

On the professional front, Kangana was last seen in the political drama Emergency, which failed to impress at the box office. She is now gearing up for her Hollywood debut with the horror thriller Blessed Be the Evil, slated for release next year. Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan is set to appear in Siddharth Anand’s action film King, sharing the screen with his daughter Suhana Khan, along with Raghav Juyal, Abhishek Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone.
