Almost a week after former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s sudden demise, IIM Shillong — where he collapsed on stage in the midst of an address — is still in mourning. The auditorium that Dr Kalam last spoke in has been left untouched and no function has taken place there since the incident.

One professor, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed that Dr Kalam was beloved at IIM Shillong like a family member and that everyone was still coping with his passing. During his last speech, Dr Kalam had a surprise assignment for the students — ways to end disruptions in Parliament.

According to the professor, Dr Kalam’s assignment caught them by surprise. “We will soon discuss what to do about it. Any decision we take should be befitting his memory. And, if we decide to work on it, it will be done seriously, not just for show,” said the professor.
