Kadhikan OTT release date locked: When and where to watch Unni Mukundan, Jayaraj's Malayalam movie

Following the success of actioner Malikappuram, the actor Unni Mukundan headlined the renowned director Jayaraj's film Kadhikan. The film arrived in theatres on December 8, 2023, and received mixed responses. Now, after a long gap, it's all set to make its official digital debut. Besides Unni Mukundan, the Malayalam film features Mukesh and Ketaki Narayan in key roles.

However, it quietly exited theatres back in 2023, the film has been gaining attention in recent months, with many Malayalam cinema lovers expressing interest in catching it online. Now, the wait is over as the platform has officially announced its arrival.

Kadhikan will be available for streaming on Manorama Max starting September 4, 2025, from 12 a.m. onwards. The release announcement was made through a poster shared by the platform on social media. This marks the OTT debut of the film, over two years after its theatrical run.

The story is about a once-popular storyteller from the 1980s who now works quietly at a sawmill. Life has been hard for him, and he has moved away from his passion for storytelling. Things take a turn when a 17-year-old boy from a juvenile home wants to learn the art of storytelling. With support from the superintendent, the boy approaches the storyteller. Their growing friendship becomes the heart of the film, helping both of them find new meaning in life.


Kadhikan stands out for the strong emotional connection between the older man and the young boy. Their bond is built on shared struggles, silent dreams, and a deep love for stories. Director Jayaraj, known for his thoughtful and emotional films, handles this story with care. The film also includes performances by Manoj Govindan, Gopu Krishna, Krishnanand, and Sabitha Jayaraj in important supporting roles.
Manorama Max continues to build a solid Malayalam film catalogue. Recent releases include Vasanthi, Koodal, Mr. & Mrs. Bachelor, and Samshayam, while Flask and Sarkeet are expected to join the platform soon. In fact, another of Jayaraj’s films, Shanthamee Raathriyil, also started streaming on the platform just last month.
