Dulquer Salmaan’s Kaantha is getting a second life online, and fans who missed its theatrical run finally have a chance to catch up. The period drama stirred early curiosity with its striking 1950s setting and strong performances, especially from newcomer Bhagyashri Borse, who made her Tamil debut with this film. While the movie couldn’t pull crowds to cinemas, its digital release is now set to introduce the story to a much wider audience.

Kaantha, directed by Selvamani Swaraj, opened in theatres on November 14, 2025. The film brought together an impressive cast, including Dulquer Salmaan, Bhagyashri Borse, Samuthirakani and Rana Daggubati. Despite the positive chatter around its visuals and performances, the movie struggled to sustain momentum at the box office. However, with the buzz now shifting toward its OTT release, the film seems primed for a fresh wave of attention.

Netflix has officially confirmed that Kaantha will begin streaming on December 12, 2025, in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi versions. For many viewers, this digital debut could change the film’s trajectory entirely.

About Kaantha

Set in the Madras of the 1950s, Kaantha centres on a celebrated director, Ayya, and his complicated dynamic with film star T. K. Mahadevan, a man whose career he helped shape. Tensions flare when Mahadevan renames a women-focused film titled Shaantha to Kaantha to suit his own public image. The shooting takes a darker turn when a murder disrupts the set, forcing Inspector Devaraj to unravel the mystery, with Ayya and Mahadevan emerging as prime suspects.
