Kaali Kheti first look poster: Jackie Shroff’s rural horror film blends ‘family, legacy and buried truths’

Jackie Shroff is ready to headline a fresh horror film. The actor was last seen in the Ahmed Khan-directed movie Welcome to the Jungle. The comedy-drama, also starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Raveena Tandon, Disha Patani, Jacqueliene Fernandez and Paresh Rawal in key roles, premiered this year in June. But now, Jackie seems to be trying a different genre. The 69-year-old has been roped in for a rural Indian horror movie titled Kaali Kheti. He has shared the film’s first-look poster on Instagram, and needless to mention, it has created significant buzz.

The poster captures a supernatural entity holding a lantern with its crippled and animal-like hands. Although its face is not visible, the malevolent being’s menacingly glowing eyes are enough to send shivers down the spine.

The side note read, ‘ROSHNI BUJHNE NA DENA, KHETI JAAGNE WALI HAI (Do not let the light go out; the fields are about to awaken). Get ready to face it on the big screen’. Besides Jackie Shroff, Kaali Kheti also stars Sharad Kelkar and Neha Sargam in important roles.

Kaali Kheti, written and directed by Imtiyaz Khan, is produced by Sana Khan under the banners of BlackCanvas Studio in association with Zeroland Production. Virendra Saxena and Shaji Choudhary are set to feature in the movie too.

While Kaali Kheti’s plot remains under tight wraps, the synopsis offers a peek into what to expect. The movie is set against the backdrop of rural India, exploring a world where family, legacy, secrets, and truths weave together, creating an unsettling and eerie tale of fear.

As per Kaali Kheti’s director, Imtiyaz Khan, the film is about exploring the fundamentals of agriculture through the supernatural lens. He wanted to make a movie from a fresh perspective which is both exciting and deeply disturbing.

The director, however, added that Kaali Kheti also serves as a mirror to society, with only the reflection existing in a scary and fantastical world. Kaali Kheti is scheduled to release in the big screens on October 23.
