175 applications, 55 interviews and 25 final rounds
The jobseeker shared that they had applied for 175 positions over nearly seven months and attended 55 interviews. Of these, 25 progressed to the final round, but none resulted in an offer. "I am just praying to the universe and the gods and everything that I get this job," the individual wrote in the post. They described the employment market as "brutal" and said the financial pressure had started affecting everyday spending. With unemployment benefits exhausted, even buying their regular protein drinks had become difficult. The candidate also revealed that they were considering contract opportunities and positions offering around $20,000 less than their previous salary.
Jobseeker turns to AI to improve chances of getting hired
After months of sending applications, the candidate decided to use artificial intelligence to make the search more focused. They created an AI agent that scans online job listings and identifies openings that match their resume, skills and work experience. The tool reportedly finds roles with at least a 95% match, helping the candidate avoid applying randomly. It also helps customise resumes, prepare cover letters, research companies and organise applications. The jobseeker applies for around six to seven positions each week and prepares detailed notes before interviews. They also record some interviews to review their performance. Despite reaching the final stages repeatedly, the candidate admitted that there was still room for improvement. "I still talk too much and ramble. Working on that," they wrote.
Other jobseekers share similar experiences
The post has also brought attention to similar experiences shared by other professionals. In July 2026, Moneycontrol reported the case of Noida-based marketing professional Bhoomika Behal, who said she had applied for more than 100 jobs over six months without receiving an offer.Behal described the experience in a LinkedIn post, writing: "I have written I am excited about this opportunity so many times I no longer know what excitement feels like." Her account also drew responses from professionals who said they were facing repeated rejections despite having years of experience.
Reddit users offer advice after 25 final-round rejections
The latest post attracted messages of support from other Reddit users. Some advised the candidate not to treat every final-round rejection as a personal failure, pointing out that hiring decisions can depend on internal candidates or very specific experience requirements. One commenter suggested that reaching 25 final rounds showed the candidate's resume and interview performance were already getting attention. Others recommended reviewing interview answers, considering temporary roles and using professional referrals. The jobseeker's experience highlights the uncertainty of a prolonged job search: getting interviews does not always guarantee an offer, even after months of preparation. For now, the individual continues to look for work, hoping the next interview will finally lead to a job.The Economic Times Business News App for the Latest News in Business, Sensex, Stock Market Updates & More.
