Is Jennie’s new song a blatant ripoff of one of Alia Bhatt’s hits? When the Blackpink’s vocalist announced her new single on Wednesday, eagle-eyed fans noted the uncanny resemblance between the BGM (background music) and chorus of the teaser and the ‘Intro Anthem’ of Bhatt’s character Rani Chatterjee from the 2023 romantic comedy ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’. The movie also marked Karan Johar’s directorial comeback and was a success at the box-office.

For those unfamiliar, Alia’s introduction song was composed by Pritam, who reimagined a classic piece by incorporating retro elements. The track featured a Bengali rap, with the name ‘Rani’ being repeatedly echoed, all while S. D. Burman’s Mere Sapno Ki Rani played in the background—an undeniably iconic sequence! The repeated refrain of ‘Jennie, Jennie, Jennie’ in the teaser immediately reminded several fans of Alia’s track.

Poking fun at the situation, a social media user humorously commented, “Someone stole from a thief! Pritam has always been notorious for lifting music.” Another netizen sarcastically remarked, “Unbelievable! Copying from a Dharma film really says a lot about KJo’s musical preferences. Stealing from a country that produces countless films and where every sixth or seventh person on Earth resides? Easiest way to get caught.”


Meanwhile, many others are currently reveling in the resurgence of Alia’s original track, which has resurfaced on social media.
