Jaya Bachchan's angry response to a fan at Manoj Kumar's prayer meet goes viral

As the Bollywood community assembled in Mumbai on Sunday to honour the late cinematic legend Manoj Kumar, an unexpected incident involving veteran actress Jaya Bachchan shifted the spotlight and set social media abuzz. The memorial gathering, held to commemorate the 87-year-old actor-director who passed away on Friday, took a dramatic turn when a video surfaced online showing Jaya in a tense moment with an older woman.

The widely shared clip, posted by Filmygyan on Instagram, captures Jaya Bachchan standing among attendees when she’s gently tapped on the shoulder by an elderly lady dressed in a green saree. What may have seemed like an innocent touch appeared to have startled Jaya. She turned abruptly, gripped the woman’s arm, and pulled her aside firmly. The tension escalated as Jaya noticed a man—likely the woman’s husband—recording the moment on his phone. Clearly irritated, she appeared to say something sharp before turning and walking away. The video quickly circulated across social media, igniting mixed reactions from viewers—some defending her stance on privacy, others criticizing her outburst.

Clad in a pristine white churidar, Jaya Bachchan arrived solo at the solemn event, in keeping with the occasion’s tone. She greeted Manoj Kumar’s family respectfully with folded hands before entering the hall. Despite the viral incident, she was seen engaging with other attendees in a composed and respectful manner.

Notably absent at the prayer meet was her husband, megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who had, however, paid his respects at Manoj Kumar’s funeral a day earlier. During the cremation, Amitabh was spotted exchanging a heartfelt moment with celebrated screenwriter Salim Khan. The two, both icons of Bollywood’s golden era, shared a handshake, warm smiles, and an embrace. Abhishek Bachchan also greeted Salim Khan with warmth and respect.

The memorial drew a significant turnout from the Hindi film industry. Celebrities such as Aamir Khan, Farhan Akhtar, Rakesh Roshan, Esha Deol, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Krishika Lulla, and Sonu Nigam were among those present. Aamir, dressed casually in a grey kurta and jeans, made a low-key entrance and quietly offered his condolences to the grieving family.

Manoj Kumar, affectionately called “Bharat Kumar” for his iconic roles in patriotic films like Shaheed, Upkar, Purab Aur Paschim, and Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, died due to age-related health issues at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Hospital. He was cremated with full state honours, including a ceremonial three-gun salute. He is survived by his wife, Shashi, and two sons.
