Lifelong learning is not just a concept for Janmejaya Sinha. It is an idea that he imbibes. A couple of months ago, the chairman of BCG India went on a two week “learning trip” to Silicon Valley.

Speaking to ETPanache at an event, Sinha said, “I spent two weeks in the Silicon Valley and came back feeling very old and out of it. I was struck [seeing] what’s happening with technology and how the world is moving. The fact is, that we have gone over the tipping point and we are living in a very different world.”

During his time in the Valley, he met startup founders and venture capitalists. “I met a startup that is thinking of preventive maintenance for driverless cars and how the world will change. I also met with some video gaming guys who want to create a league for the video gaming community,” he said.

He learnt a lot, he said, especially gleaning interesting insights about the capability of artificial intelligence and the way it will change the ecosystem.

Sinha also shared a pro-tip for continuously learning more about the world. “I feel that you must meet people outside your regular circle,” he said. “If you keep meeting people like you, you won’t know what’s going on. You have to find time to meet people who are not like you.”
