Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, which was scheduled to release in theatres on January 9, faced a last-minute postponement due to a delay in receiving its censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The unexpected move left fans and exhibitors in uncertainty just hours before the planned release. Today, the Madras High Court announced its verdict.

Major update on Jana Nayagan release date

According to Live Law report, Madras HC directs CBFC to issue U/A certificate for Vijay last movie. For the unversed, Jana Nayagan was originally scheduled to hit theatres on January 9, but the plans were abruptly put on hold after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) did not issue the censor certificate in time. With no clearance in place, the makers were left with no option but to postpone the release.

In response, the film’s producers, KVN Productions, approached the Madras High Court seeking relief. They challenged the CBFC’s delay and requested the court to direct the board to grant the film a UA 16+ certificate.

Meanwhile, distributors in regions such as Europe, Malaysia, and the United States were the first to confirm that the release had been postponed. This was followed by an official statement from the makers, who described the situation as unavoidable. In their message, they said the decision to delay the release was taken with a heavy heart and assured fans that a new release date would be announced at the earliest. They also appealed for patience and continued support during the unexpected delay.

Amid the controversy, the Tamil film industry rallied behind Vijay. Several filmmakers and actors, including Karthik Subbaraj, Venkat Prabhu, Ajay R Gnanamuthu, Silambarasan TR, Jiiva, and others, publicly voiced their support for the actor, highlighting the scale of anticipation surrounding the film and Vijay’s standing in the industry.
