'Jailer', 'Gadar 2' & 'OMG 2' shatter box office record of highest-ever weekend gross collection in 100 years, collect Rs 390 crore combined

The Indian cinema industry, after enduring a prolonged period of uncertainty, has made a remarkable comeback, dazzling audiences and making history with a staggering weekend collection of Rs 390 crore.

The weekend of August 11-13, marked by the release of cinematic powerhouses like Rajinikanth's 'Jailer', Sunny Deol's 'Gadar 2', and Akshay Kumar's 'OMG 2', etched an mark on cinema, resulting in a stunning resurgence and record-breaking success.

Among these cinematic juggernauts, 'Jailer' has emerged as a frontrunner, capturing attention with a global collection of Rs 222 crore within the first four days of its release.


According to Sacnilk.com, Deol's captivating presence in 'Gadar 2' contributed significantly to the weekend's extraordinary numbers, amassing a staggering collection of Rs 134 crore.

Kumar's charismatic appeal in 'OMG 2' further heightened the cinematic fervour, contributing Rs 43.56 crore to the record-breaking weekend.

This was a historic feat as it's the highest-ever weekend gross collection in over a century of Indian cinema.

Commenting on this historic achievement, Shibasish Sarkar, President of the Producers Guild of India, in a statement emphasized the power of collaboration and the remarkable storytelling prowess that resulted in this exceptional triumph.

Kamal Gianchandani, President of MAI and CEO of PVR Cinemas, echoed this sentiment, underscoring the renewed vitality of the shared cinema experience, stating, "This weekend is also an undeniable demonstration of cinemas being the ultimate place to be part of a shared experience."


The movie theatres witnessed a remarkable footfall of over 21 million individuals across the nation. Notably, this surge surpassed the previous industry record set in April 2017 when 'Baahubali 2: The Conclusion' conquered the Indian box office.
