Vidya Balan on joining Rajinikanth in Jailer 2

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, Jailer 2 brings back several actors from the 2023 film. Rajinikanth reprises his role as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, alongside Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Rithvik. The sequel also features SJ Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Vidya Balan.

Vidya has a pivotal role in the film. In an interview with Screen, the actor spoke about her excitement at being part of a Tamil-language project and her wish to work across Indian film industries.

She said, "My dream is to do films in all the Indian languages overtime. But definitely because I’m a Tamilian, I’m excited about Jailer 2. I’m also ready for this. I had a lot of misses in both Malayalam and Tamil films at the beginning of my career. I was replaced even before the shooting because of that whole ‘jinx’ thing. So, for a while, I wasn’t mentally open to doing films in any language, but Hindi. But overtime, I’ve matured and realised that was just the time. It doesn’t have to do with anything else. And as an actor, we’re hungry to do good roles."

What is Jailer 2 about?

The sequel continues the story of retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, who finds himself facing new threats connected to an idol-smuggling network. The film also brings back Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff in cameo appearances, while featuring additional surprise appearances. With its mix of action, family drama and familiar characters, Jailer 2 has received favourable responses from critics and audiences.
