It was reported earlier that Sharat Chandra has roped in South actress-filmmaker Revathi to direct the remake of Mahesh Bhatt's path-breaking 1982 drama 'Arth', which had featured Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Smita Patil and Shabana Azmi as the leads. Incidentally, Revathi played one of the leads in the film's 1993 Tamil remake, 'Marupadiyum', directed by the late Balu Mahendra, as the estranged wife who eventually chooses to live independently as a single mother to the daughter of her domestic help.
Shabana played the role in the original, bagging the National Award and a Filmfare Black Lady for her performance. Smita was equally impressive as the other woman, Kavita, who after breaking up Inder and Pooja's marriage, is racked by guilt and insecurity and ends up breaking off the relationship. According to a source close to the development, Revathi has been working on the script for a while, besides the prep, before starting on the casting. "Now, with that in place, the makers reached out to Jacqueline recently and she really liked both, the concept and her role. She is really excited to be a part of the remake of an iconic film like 'Arth' and has given her verbal consent to the part but is yet to sign on the dotted line," informs a source.
In an interview, the actress had admitted to taking acting classes in Los Angeles and wanting to get experimental with her roles. She'd shared that while she did not want to get away entirely from commercial cinema, as an actress, she did want to discover herself, do things a little differently, adding to the stuff she has done before. "Now, it's all about balancing the two," she had asserted, adding that since the last couple of years, she has been looking for scripts that will take her out of her comfort zone.
'Arth' is a semi-autobiographical film by Bhatt, delving into the filmmaker's extra-marital affair with Parveen Babi with Kulbhushan as his screen alter ego.

"In the past also, I was offered plenty of Hindi films. I just wanted to be as choosy with Hindi as I was with films in other languages that I have done. I wanted it (debut Hindi film) to be a really nice film," Nithya told IANS.
"I found this a nice character. I don't think we have done a film like this... you know, a space film," added the star, who made her debut as a lead actress with Kannada film "7 O'Clock" over a decade ago.

Dulquer, the son of Malayalam megastar Mammootty, chose 'Karwaan', a film that was made on a much smaller budget. Still, the Akarsh Khurana directorial earned a spot in the top 10 Indian movies of 2018, determined by global movie website IMDb customer ratings. He also made his debut in Telugu with "Mahanati", based on the life of actress Savitri.
In an interview with IANS, the "Kali" star, who is one of the rare actors to debut four times, had said: "I am not saying that I am entitled to a big debut in Malayalam film or any language."
