Jackie Chan's son Jaycee prosecuted on drug charge

BEIJING: Hollywood Kung fu superstar Jackie Chan's son Jaycee Chan, who was caught using drugs with friends at his house here, has formally been charged with drug offences by prosecutors.

Jaycee, 32, was prosecuted for allegedly providing a venue for drug users. He was arrested along with Ko Chen-tung, a 23- year-old Taiwanese movie star also known as Kai Ko, who was later released on August 29 after 14 days of administrative detention.

The prosecution came three months after the junior Chan was formally arrested by Beijing police on August 14 on suspicion of accommodating drug users.

Chan, also known as Fang Zuming, and Chen-tung tested positive for marijuana and both admitted to taking the drug. Police had also confiscated more than 100 grams of marijuana at the junior Chan's home.

According to Chinese law, those involved in providing locations for others to take drugs face sentences of up to three years. The transporting, manufacturing or trafficking drugs can attract the death penalty.

Born to Jackie Chan and his wife, a Taiwanese actress Lin Feng-Jiao, Jaycee, an actor and singer, was raised in Los Angeles. He did not pursue studies after two semesters and has a penchant for luxury cars.

It is a double blow to Jackie, who was appointed as the goodwill Ambassador for the China National Anti-Drug Committee in 2009 to promote anti-drug education in the country.

Last year he was honoured by the ruling Chinese Communist Party with membership in the elite advisory legislative body, the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in recognition of his achievements and his global acclaim as an actor.
