On October 13th, people from across the globe are signing off from Twitter for 24 hours in support of the #WomenBoycottTwitter movement.

Actors and activists are calling for users to boycott the social media site for a day after the service suspended McGowan's for violating its terms and policies. The ban was lifted Thursday afternoon.

The actress is among the many women to speak out against the sexual harassment by Harvey Weinstein.

Started in New York, as a protest against actress Rose McGowan's suspension, the movement is expected to go on for the complete day on Friday.

Twitter had said that it suspended McGowan's account because she tweeted a private phone number, a practice it said violated its service terms. The company said it will "be clearer about these policies and decisions in the future.''

The protest that has been trending since it began, and has been supported by a number of high-profile celebrities including Mark Ruffalo, Chrissy Teigen, John Cusack, Anna Paquin and millions of users.
