Isha Talwar Recounts Her Disturbing Audition Experience
Isha Talwar, celebrated for her strong performances in Mirzapur, Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo, and Article 15, recently opened up about a deeply unsettling experience from the early days of her acting career. Through a heartfelt comment under a media post, Isha shared a moment that left a lasting impact on her self-esteem as an aspiring actress. It involved an unusual request from one of the most powerful figures in Bollywood casting—Shanoo Sharma, the senior casting director at Yash Raj Films.

A Public Audition That Shattered Confidence

According to Isha, during the initial phase of her journey in Hindi cinema, she was asked to audition for a scene under extremely awkward circumstances. The scene in question required her to cry—not on a soundstage or within the privacy of a casting office—but in the middle of a bustling restaurant in Mumbai's Versova area. The location was Mia Cucina, a popular eatery filled with unsuspecting diners at the time.

This emotionally intense audition took place with Shanoo Sharma and her assistants seated nearby, observing Isha's every move. The rationale provided to her was that actors should be free of inhibition and perform anywhere. But to Isha, the moment felt inappropriate and unprofessional. The situation left her confused and vulnerable, especially as someone new and impressionable in the competitive world of Bollywood.

"It shattered my confidence as a young girl in films ... I couldn't understand why a senior casting director needed to put a young girl through this," she wrote.

Standing Her Ground, Losing the Role

Rather than comply with the uncomfortable task, Isha chose to maintain her dignity and refused to participate in the public display of emotion. Predictably, she did not land the role, but she held onto something far more important—her self-respect. In her reflection, Isha emphasized that young actors should never feel compelled to compromise their comfort or self-worth just to secure a part. She asserted that auditions deserve respectful, private settings where talent can be evaluated without unnecessary pressure or humiliation.

"I do remember saying I can't do it and of course I never got the role... but at least I didn't give in to the weird ask, and surely I didn't cry at a restaurant for a role," she concluded.

A Career Built With Resilience

Despite this early setback, Isha has built an impressive portfolio across languages and platforms. Beginning her career as a model, she made her film debut in the Malayalam blockbuster Thattathin Marayathu in 2012. Since then, she has been part of popular films like Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyinde, Bangalore Days, and Article 15. Her work in web series such as Mirzapur, Indian Police Force, and Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo has further cemented her position as a versatile and powerful performer.

The Casting Giant Behind Bollywood's Stars

Shanoo Sharma, the casting director at the heart of this story, remains one of Bollywood’s most influential gatekeepers. Known for discovering fresh talent, she has played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of stars like Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma, Arjun Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra, and Bhumi Pednekar. She is also credited with bringing Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda into the limelight through the project Saiyaara.

Yet, Isha Talwar’s revelation casts a shadow on the process behind such success stories—highlighting the emotional cost some actors may bear behind the scenes.
