A study by money.co.uk has recently identified the Cairn Terrier as the world's most beautiful dog breed using the golden ratio.
While every pet parent believes their furry friend is the most beautiful creature on earth, science says otherwise — and the answer might ruffle a few tails. According to a study using the golden ratio, a mathematical formula often applied to measure human beauty, the world's most beautiful dog breed has been revealed — and it's not the Golden Retriever or Poodle you might expect.

The Science of Doggy Perfection

The golden ratio — a mathematical principle dating back to ancient Greece — is often used to determine symmetrical beauty in faces. Celebrities like Zendaya and Bella Hadid have been deemed some of the most beautiful women based on this formula. But who knew the same logic could be applied to our four-legged friends?

In a unique study by money.co.uk, researchers measured the proportions of various dog breeds against the golden ratio to calculate which breed boasts the most scientifically beautiful features.

And the Winner Is...

Surprisingly, the Cairn Terrier — best known as Toto from The Wizard of Oz — came out on top, scoring a near-perfect 88.7 percent match with the golden ratio. The small yet scrappy breed beat out the likes of the elegant Italian Greyhound and the ever-popular Border Collie.

Here’s how the top five stacked up:

Not All Dogs Are Equal — At Least According to Science

While the results might spark heated debates among dog lovers, experts behind the study were quick to remind everyone that beauty is more than skin deep. "Every dog, no matter its shape or size, should be appreciated," said pet insurance expert Salman Haqqi.

Beauty Is in the Eye of the Beholder

Whether your pup made the list or not, one thing remains true — the bond between dogs and their humans goes far beyond appearances. As the study proves, beauty might have a formula, but the love we have for our pets is immeasurable.
