Is Microsoft working on a new Xbox One controller?

The patents aim to improve controller trigger feedback in the upcoming new Xbox controllers.

Microsoft filed two patents for its controller's triggers back in June 2017. The first being that for triggers with an input device with linear geared feedback and the second for triggers with motor-driven adjustable tension. Both of which were granted in December 2018.

The tech giant wants to allow game developers to adjust the feedback the user receives when pressing down on either of the triggers, thus imitating a wide range of different actions.

The triggers are likely to feature force-feedback motor which developers can adjust to serve multiple purposes.

Even small enhancements will play an important part in ensuring smooth and responsive gameplay – whether you're shooting, sprinting, or cycling through menus with the Xbox One controller's triggers.

If these upgrades were to roll out, Microsoft would potentially implement them in Xbox One Elite controllers as well.
