Is it a bird? Is it a plane? It’s a UFO
It is an unidentified floating, not flying, object — a new kind of luxury yacht.

The cleverly named Unidentified Floating Object, UFO for short, is a creation from Italian mini yacht-maker Jet Capsule and its two designers Pierpaolo Lazzarini and Luca Solla. They’ve developed the concept for a far-out looking ship that allows you to coast on the sea surface for days.
On the top part of the sphere, the yacht would have a kitchen and lounge, while the bottom half would have a shower and bedroom with an incredible view of the sea (similar to Dubai’s floating villas).
But don’t expect to gun it across the Indian Ocean — the UFO will only float at a snail’s pace of 6.5 km/h (3.5 knots). If you don’t mind just drifting off into the sea, feel comforted by a guarantee that no storm would tip it over (sounds hard to believe).
Being so isolated, you might wonder how you’d survive. Jet Capsule plans for the UFO to sustainably powered by solar and wind energy. Drinking water would drip to your tap from a solar-powered desalination system to purify rainwater and you’d live off the fruits of your labour in a vegetable garden on the outer deck.
Sound like your dream home? Unfortunately it can’t be bought, yet. The designers are looking for investors to build the first prototype at a cost of $800,000, but after that they’re hoping to sell it for $200,000. Not bad. Definitely better than living in a box for $400 a month.
