Irrfan Khan to star in web series created by AIB's Gursimran Khamba

MUMBAI: Amazon Prime Video has signed Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan as the lead actor for its upcoming Indian Amazon Original – ' The Ministry'. Created by Gursimran Khamba of AIB, ‘The Ministry’ is a political satire set in contemporary India's corridors of power, and is set to launch globally in 2018 on Amazon Prime Video.

Vijay Subramaniam, Director - Content, Amazon Prime Video India, said, “After a phenomenal response to our licensed comedy shows, we are excited to launch our very own Amazon Original in the comedy space. We are further strengthening our offering by collaborating with the best content creators of the genre and roping in one of the most versatile Indian actors with massive global appeal.”

Khan added, “I am looking forward to this great collaboration with Amazon and AIB – both have content that makes me very excited to work with them. It will be a great experience to be working on this show which will be very topical and funny and will release globally on Amazon Prime Video.”

The show will continue Khan’s forays into various fields of entertainment. Political satire has seen very few mainstream efforts in India and ‘The Ministry’ is an ambitious attempt to combine humor with political commentary.

The Ministry is the story of a washed up narcissistic Bollywood actor who is unwittingly appointed as a placeholder Union Culture Minister. Despite a crippling bureaucracy, political gaffes and a team of misfits, he yearns to be loved by the masses once again.
