Irfan Pathan ties the knot with Safa Baig in Mecca

VADODARA: Cricketer Irfan Pathan has tied nuptial knots with a 21-year-old girl from Jeddah. The all-rounder from Baroda married Safa Baig at Haram Shareef in the holy city of Mecca on Thursday. Sources close to his family said that they were seeing each other for last two years.

"Irfan and Safa met in Dubai about two years ago and later came close. Safa even visited Vadodara to meet Irfan's family. The duo got engaged about three months ago following which the wedding date was fixed," said a source.

Safa grew up in Azizyah, a district in Jeddah and she is an alumna of the International Indian School in Jeddah. Daughter of Mirza Farooq Baig, Safa was a model by profession and now works for a PR firm in Jeddah. She is also popular as a nail artist.


The wedding invite

It was a simple wedding ceremony in Mecca and the Pathan family had kept it a low-key affair. Only family members and close relatives of 31-year-old Irfan and Safa were present during the ‘nikaah' following which the Pathan family had organized a dinner programme at a plush hotel at Al-Hindaweeyah on Thursday night.

"Irfan and his family may return to the city on Friday night and Safa will come later," said a source. Irfan is expected to throw a grand reception in March and the venue will, in all probability, be the Laxmi Vilas Palace.
