iPhone will let you track cabs, live sports on Lock Screen & Dynamic Island with new iOS 16.1 update

The ActivityKit API is now available for developers to test the feature.

As millions of iPhone users are basking in the goodness of the latest iOS 16, Apple has some more good news. A forthcoming iOS 16 update will enable users to track their cabs, food deliveries and live sports from the Lock Screen or Dynamic Island of their iPhones. This will enhance the Lock Screen utility on iPhones.

According to a report on Macrumors, the Cupertino-based tech giant has confirmed that a widget for Live Activities Lock Screen feature will arrive with the iOS 16.1 update. The tech company has reportedly stated that the ActivityKit API is now available to developers who can incorporate Live Activities on their applications.

The Live Activities feature is essentially interactive notifications that keep users posted about information in real-time. Now, adding this to the Lock Screen will enable users to track a host of services such as cab waiting time and route on their Lock Screen. Those who follow sports will be able to see live scores on the lock screen.



While the Live Activities will be available across devices, the iPhone 14 Pro models will be able to see Live Activities on the Dynamic Island. As of now, the tech giant has confirmed that the iOS 16.1 release candidate is available to developers and it is awaiting submission of apps with Live Activities to the App store. The release date of the iOS 16.1 update remains to be known.

The iOS 16 was rolled out on September 12 to Apple devices such as iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone X, iPhone SE Gen 2, iPhone SE Gen 3, iPhone 11 Series, iPhone 12 Series, iPhone 13 Series, and the latest iPhone 14 Series.
