iPhone-like satellite connectivity confirmed for Samsung Galaxy S24 series, price to remain unchanged

New leaks and reports suggest that Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S24 series, expected to be officially unveiled on January 17, 2024, will maintain the pricing strategy of its predecessor, the Galaxy S23 series.

Pricing Strategy

The line-up, comprising of the base Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and the top-tier Galaxy S24 Ultra, is anticipated to hit the market with identical price tags, starting at $799, $999, and $1,199, respectively in the US.

This pricing stability is attributed to Samsung's plan to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC for the Galaxy S24 Ultra and its in-house Exynos 2400 chip for the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus in select markets.


According to GSM Arena, the strategic use of these processors aims to facilitate a 10 per cent increase in sales, with a targeted shipment of over 33 million Galaxy S24 units.

Satellite Connectivity & Other Features

In a move mirroring Apple's introduction of satellite connectivity in the iPhone 14 last year, Samsung is set to incorporate an 'Emergency texts via satellite' feature in the Galaxy S24 series.

This functionality, confirmed by recent leaks, enables users to send emergency texts using satellite connectivity in situations where they are out of range or not connected to a mobile network.

The leaked information aligns with Samsung's earlier development of 5G modem technology, enabling direct communication between phones and satellites. This technology adheres to the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standards, allowing calls, texts, and data to flow even in areas without cell towers.

The 'Emergency texts via satellite' feature is expected to work similarly to that on iPhones, allowing users to send precise GPS locations along with emergency texts.

While Samsung has not officially disclosed the global launch date of the Galaxy S24 series, anticipation is high for the January 17 event.
