For years, Apple’s September iPhone launches have largely followed a familiar script: better cameras, faster chips and longer battery life wrapped inside an increasingly polished slab of glass and metal. The “Surprise and Shine” event broke that rhythm. Alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, Apple finally unfolded the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone and arguably the biggest rethink of the iPhone’s physical form since the original device arrived in 2007. It also marked the first major product showcase under new Apple CEO John Ternus. But while the Pro models delivered the expected annual upgrades, the Duo signalled Apple was ready to experiment with what an iPhone could actually become. iPhone 18 Pro: Price, features and India availability

The iPhone 18 Pro features a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion, a smaller Dynamic Island and Apple’s new A20 Pro chip built on a 2nm process. Its biggest camera addition is a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture, giving photographers greater control over light and depth of field. Siri AI and Apple Intelligence arrive through iOS 27, while Apple rates video playback at up to 36 hours. In India, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at Rs 1,64,900. Pre-orders open on September 12, with sales beginning September 18. It comes in Burgundy, Glacier, Silver and Black, with storage ranging from 256GB to 2TB.

iPhone 18 Pro Max: Bigger screen, biggest battery, price in India

The iPhone 18 Pro Max retains the larger 6.9-inch display but shares the A20 Pro processor and variable-aperture 48MP main camera with the Pro. The major distinction is endurance. Apple claims up to 45 hours of video playback, calling it the biggest battery-life leap yet for an iPhone. The redesigned vapour chamber also improves sustained performance during demanding workloads.


The iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at Rs 1,79,900 in India. Pre-orders begin September 12, and availability starts September 18. Buyers can choose 256GB, 512GB, 1TB or 2TB configurations.

iPhone Duo: Apple finally folds the iPhone; check price and availability in India

The iPhone Duo is where “Surprise and Shine” becomes more than another annual upgrade. Closed, the device offers a 5.4-inch outer display; open it, and users get a 7.6-inch tablet-like screen. It runs on A20 Pro, features dual 48MP rear cameras and replaces Face ID with side-mounted Touch ID. The foldable design also introduces multitasking possibilities unavailable on a conventional iPhone. In India, iPhone Duo starts at Rs 2,99,900 for 256GB, with pre-orders scheduled for October 16 and availability from October 23.

Apple is entering foldables years after rivals, but that may be precisely why the Duo matters. Rather than changing only what sits inside an iPhone, Apple has changed how an iPhone can be used and held. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max refine the established flagship formula. The Duo takes the bigger risk. And that makes “Surprise and Shine” less about another September upgrade and more about the moment Apple finally decided the traditional iPhone shape did not have to last forever.
