iPhone 14 review: It's a no-brainer purchase, starting at Rs 79,900

iPhone 14 is the most affordable new Apple smartphone with impeccable performance and consistently good cameras.
Apple Inc’s recently launched iPhone 14 is a terrific smartphone in its line-up, although it is without any substantial upgrades, just like the US smartphone maker’s ‘S’ models — iPhone 4s, iPhone 5s, and iPhone 6s — which were only incremental additions.

What works
The familiar look and design. The 6.1-inch screen size is almost perfect — not too big and not too small — and carries flat aluminium rails on the side. It looks like the iPhone 13 and is comfortable for one-handed usage, which is a big plus.

What could’ve been better
Apple may have missed a trick in not providing the latest A16 processor. Usually, the iPhone maker’s plain-vanilla offerings, too, came with the same processor as its Pro models, but not this year. This may compel more users to go in for the Pro versions of the iPhone 14. The standard 60Hz refresh rate on its display isn’t a deal breaker though the competition offers a superior experience.

The standout feature
The performance of the iPhone 14 is top-notch as the A15 processor, and its upgraded chipset, remain a cut above the rest. Day-to-day tasks are handled with ease and the iPhone 14 will guarantee 4-5 years of great performance for most users.

What’s new?
iPhone 14 comes with Car Crash detection as well as the Emergency SOS satellite connectivity feature. These are handy in an emergency. The camera performance of the iPhone 14 is also better. Apple has put two sensors of the iPhone 13 Pro series in the iPhone 14. The result? Better portraits, low-light photography, and point-and-shoot experience.

Should you go for it?
Absolutely. If you are upgrading from iPhone 11 or older models, the iPhone 14 is a no-brainer. Starting at Rs 79,900, it is the most affordable new iPhone with impeccable performance and consistently good cameras. If you have an iPhone 12 or iPhone 13, splash that extra cash on the iPhone 14 Pro, which has better features.
