Equities, bonds, deposits, property and gold may be traditional avenues of investments. But for the truly wealthy and discerning, ‘investments of passion’ are just as valuable in the overall portfolio. The choice of item under this head, of course, solely depends on personal interests.
As per a recent wealth report, the most common items under this head are art, watches, cars and jewellery for Indians, much in line with their Asian and other global counterparts. In fact, art is the top item for all three groups. However, a fifth item on the list of preferences for Indians shows that the desi crowd prefers its whisky to wine as a collectible. Where Asians overall as well as global investors prefer wine for investment, Indians pick whisky.
Of course, in the overall investment portfolio, these luxury investments barely hold an allocation of three — four per cent across groups as per the report. They are after all as the report labels them ‘investments of passion.’
