Instagram will soon allow users to repost reels, posts from other users

The photo-sharing platform Instagram is working on a feature that will soon allow users to report other people’s posts.

After the update, Instagram users will be able to repost posts, reels and videos which were shared or uploaded by another user, just like Twitter's retweet function.

According to a report in TechCrunch, the Meta-owned platform is currently exploring the ability to reshare posts in Feed. The feature will function similarly as the current tool that allows users to reshare posts, reels, videos as Stories on Instagram.


The aim of the upcoming feature is to give original content creators the much due credit for their work. With the help of reposting features, the content, posted by the original creator, will get the reach, likes and views on social media that it rightfully deserves.

"We plan to test this soon with a small number of people," the report said, quoting a Meta spokesperson as saying. Instagram users who want to repost posts occasionally do so using third-party apps because there isn't a direct way to do so right now.

The new feature was first spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra, who posted a screenshot that showcases a Reposts tab. The tab will likely be home to all the posts that users have reshared on their accounts.

As per the screenshot, which is making headlines, the Repost feature will appear on the user's profile alongside the posts, reels and tagged photos tabs. Apart from this, users will soon also get the option to cross-post Reels to Facebook from Instagram.
